Suggestions for running School Country & Western Day

*A couple of weeks before the day send a newsletter to parents to see if any parents can contribute in anyway to a Country & Western Day. E.g., bringing in a few animals and setting up a farm animal petting area, bringing a few hay bales, doing some sort of demonstration, E.g., building a fence, wood chopping, sheep shearing, tying knots, etc.

Step1:

The first part of the day could be learning about the importance of the farming industry in NZ and arranging some classroom learning/activities based around this

Step2:

Refer to YouTube for basic line dancing lessons for kids/beginners and run a dance lesson with some country music and line dancing so kids can do their dancing dressing up in theme while listening to some fun country songs like “Achy Breaky Heart”.

Step3:

If any parents are local farmers see if they can bring a couple of animals for a mini petting area at school with a few hay bales set up to add to theme. Plus, potentially run any farming related demonstrations.

Step4:

Get the kids to bring in some baking and set up a red & white chequered tablecloth with a bake sale. Combine this with a sausage sizzle.

Step5:

Set up the Wild West Theme Games in this package in a fun game area for a fun afternoon activity. In addition to these games here are some other games/ideas you could add but please note that the extra items/props required for these games are not included:

·       Organise a gumboot throwing competition.

·       Organise Sack races (or maybe old pillowcases).

·       Organise a Tug O War competition.

·       Organise team Hay bale relay racing.
